How to Configure U3-02 Parameter for Timed Automatic Pump Group Alternation

How to Configure U3-02 Parameter for Timed Automatic Pump Group Alternation

To implement timed automatic pump group alternation (i.e., "Wheel Pump" or "Alternation Operation" function) in AU620 (and its series such as Y620, YS820) water supply system, the U3-02 parameter is the core control item.

Below are the specific matching methods and operation details:

1. Basic Settings of U3-02 Parameter

  • Parameter Name: Alternation time / Wheel pump time.
  • Parameter Location: Advanced parameter group U3-02 (hexadecimal address: F302).
  • Setting Range: 0 to 60,000 minutes.
  • Factory Default Value: 480 minutes (i.e., 8 hours).
  • Function Off: If U3-02 is set to 0, the system will disable the timed wheel pump function.

2. Operation Matching Logic

After setting the value of U3-02, the system works in accordance with the following logic:

  • Automatic Cycle: The Master drive records the running time of the current operating pump. Once the cumulative running time reaches the number of minutes set in U3-02, the system will automatically switch the current "main operating pump" to the next available auxiliary pump (Slave/Auxiliary) to achieve cyclic alternation operation.
  • Service Life Extension: The purpose of this function is to balance the wear and running time of each water pump, thereby extending the service life of the entire pump group unit.
  • Fault Transfer Coordination: The wheel pump logic takes effect not only when the timing is reached, but also cooperates with the "fault skip" mechanism. If the next pump to be rotated is in fault state, the system will automatically skip it and start the next normal pump.

3. Prerequisite Configurations for Realizing the Function

Setting U3-02 alone is not enough; it is also necessary to ensure the following system configurations are correct:

  • RS485 Communication Connection: All inverters must be connected in parallel via S+ and S- communication cables.
  • Local Address (U3-01):
    • The primary Master drive must be set to 1.
    • The standby Master drive must be set to 2 (if available).
    • Slave/Auxiliary drive addresses are set to 3 to 5.
  • Number of Auxiliary Drives (U3-03): The Master drive must correctly set the number of auxiliary drives connected in the system (0-4 units), otherwise the system cannot recognize how many pumps participate in rotation.
  • Control Mode Coordination: The start/stop command (U0-10) and frequency reference (U0-13) of slave drives must be set to 2 (Communication Control), so that they can follow the rotation scheduling instructions of the Master drive.

4. Operation Suggestions

If you want the pump group to alternate more frequently (e.g., every 2 hours), set U3-02 to 120. After modification, it is recommended to press the MENU key continuously to return to the main interface to ensure the setting takes effect.
